ABOUT US

Founded in 2006 in Sacramento, Teatro Nagual (TeNa) became an incorporated nonprofit in 2009. We are a theatre company dedicated to creating brave, inclusive spaces where art, culture, and community intersect. Through bold, bilingual storytelling, we bring together artists, educators, and scientists to share knowledge, spark dialogue, and inspire change.

Our work empowers, educates, and uplifts communities through performances that are emotionally resonant and socially relevant. Rooted in values of love, acceptance, and respect for our communities and Mother Earth, we center the voices and stories of those most often unheard.

TeNa’s work lives at the intersection of performance, social justice, and education. From stage productions to mobile theatrical experiences, we create innovative programming that fosters connection, healing, and unity across our community.

PERFORMANCES

Teatro Nagual is committed to delivering quality theatrical experiences that resonate with our audiences. We take pride in empowering and showcasing our talented artists through powerful productions like El Borracho by Tony Meneses, Lydia by Octavio Solis and Anna in the Tropics by Nilo Cruz. These performances reflect our dedication to excellence in theatre and our serious commitment to bringing compelling stories to life on stage.

In addition to our main productions, we host quarterly cabarets at the beautiful Sofia building, home of B Street Theatre. These events spotlight local artists with incredible talents, providing a dynamic platform for creative expression within our community.

MOBILE SOCIAL JUSTICE

Through our Mobile Social Justice initiatives, we create and deliver theatrical performances that inform and educate our community about civic engagement and environmental justice.

Partnering with organizations such as La Familia Counseling Center, California State Parks, and the Sacramento County Vehicle Emissions Project, we extend our reach and impact. We are committed to improving the quality of life not only for our community but for all, by fostering dialogue, empowerment, and healing through the arts.

EDUCATION

We are committed to growing the next generation of Latino/a/x/e teaching artists.

We offer mentorship, workshops, and practical experience to help young artists develop the skills needed to inspire and educate future generations. By focusing on this work, we ensure that our community's cultural heritage continues to thrive and that diverse voices are represented in the arts.
